David Button asked Seger to come up with a versatile attic to serve as the memory space for Jo March, the Little Women sister and author (Louisa May Alcott). He devised an open structure with outlines of a wall, roof and dormer windows to allow the lighting to work its magic. Civil War era sepia photographs complete the scene. Button and Seger combined on the decor. |
The action often spilled onto the thrust for house and street scenes. |
The need to burn something in a fireplace required the creation of a believable stove. |
Seger first extended the scenery on the walls of the theatre last year during the summer productions. With the Clear Space thrust stage almost demanding something behind the action, he serves the storytelling with images -- this time including Civil War era photographs and portraits of Louisa May Alcott. |
The audience-right view, including a young Louisa May, gargoyles from Paris, a married couple and the Alcott home. |
Dormer windows dominate the attic and give a focus to the array of memory items. The four dolls below the window seat represent the four March sisters. |
